The Serving Spoon: Breakfast Sanctuary!

In 1982 an Ohio innovator named Harold moved out to Inglewood, CA to start his dream of owning and placing a restaurant in the Los Angeles community. Having raving reviews of the home-style delicious breakfast menu, the now established Serving Spoon has never let the community down, making every spoonful a blissful moment, or as they say: Love at first bite.

Years later Harold retired in 2004 leaving the restaurant to his daughter Angela and son in law Jerry.

“We usually make all of our business decisions together but this decision was made all by my husband. I had been working here since I was 16, so my interest wasn’t as strong as my husbands to purchase and take it over but looking back now, I wouldn’t change it for the world”.

I asked the happily married couple how they felt the restaurant survived the struggles of the economy and our countries recession during 2007 and so forth:

Jerry: “Without the customer, there is no us. For example, we offered biscuits only on the weekends but the customers kept asking for them during the week. So we did. If we can do it we will because without their feedback and money we would be nothing. Another example was All-Star weekend when it was here in L.A. in 2011. We stayed open for 24hours that whole week! Our staff was going crazy but nonetheless ecstatic that the customers were happy and full. Plus it boosted our business up all the same”.

Angela: “People always have to eat. we offer reasonable pricing and set our atmosphere so that people can feel comfortable and escape their worries while enjoying a home-style meal. We hire people that are cultured and cultivated to serve you. We do this because we know people have choices, we don’t sacrifice service or take it for granted”.

As far as the menu goes, everything is catered to fit what YOU want out of your meal. Recipes haven’t changed but about 10% since the 80′s and with the inclusion of their salmon croquettes, spicy beef patties, chicken sausage and steak you will not be left unsatisfied. Plates such as Catfish Grits and Eggs is a signature dish of theirs and although they do carry chicken and waffles, the wide variety of options available is recommend you try it ALL!

Since the grand opening, people from all over the world have come to visit this diamond in Inglewood. From actor Eddie Murphy, previous Laker Derek Fisher, Stevie Wonder, Singer Tyrese and many more!

Along with their southern hospitality there’s little reminders all over the restaurant to humble a stressed mind and promote peace, you know, that’s what made them shine, just read their signs!

Although its a breakfast spot, don’t think you can’t get this delectable menu at late hours, they do that too!!

Keeping the community enriched is a small blessing I noticed, like Soul Train they have a scramble board that allows customers to think with their head and be rewarded with their stomachs. Prizes like free Peach Cobbler will compliment any meal!

Bottom line is they serve TOP of the line, home-style, respectable and undisputed breakfast around town. Skeptical? Go ahead and try it yourself, don’t worry, I’ll wait!

Guaranteed you will find Love at First Bite.
