I wish I learned this information before. We all felt this way, we were all tired. People in general need a better way to save money in this day and age, it’s all about impulse. People place so much energy in technology so I had to think of a way to combine all these elements together. With impulse spending there has to be the other side to it with impulse saving. Me and my friends take trips, parties, vacation, we wanna go to Brazil for the world cup, we have to make that a reality”.

Porterhouse takes over LA

Zyaire Porter

If you’re an avid Tweeter then you have more than likely come across the name @PorterhouseLA. He, Zyaire Porter, is a compelling multi-tasker who has dreams of achieving the unthinkable. Meeting him at USC’s Gear Fest, a fashion music show where Jhene; Teyana Taylor and Casey Veggies performed, he helped me and my girl out with camera setup and we all started talking. He had so much to offer and so much drive, no doubt a role model for everyone out in Los Angeles with a dream and a purpose. As a blogger I wanted to show my appreciation and put him in the hot seat for once, enjoy!

Zyaire Porter

WOTS: Hey Z! Okay so I see you doing a lot. I’m proud because I know how intense it is to be an employee and be self motivated to be a blogger at the same time. Plus, you’re a photographer and a father of course. So how do you find the balance to juggle all things together? I’m stressin thinking about it all haha. [Read more...]

Trent Elliot: The ArDEST!

photo 3

Trent Elliot Williams goes by “Trent Elliot” from View Park, CA. He is currently an Industrial Design student at California State University Long Beach. Born in 1987, Trent comes from  a close family including his mom, dad, older brother and younger sister. Being a Los Angeles resident, his lust for life fell in the hands of art where his opportunities are endless and his horizon is, in my opinion, at a close reach. I sat with him for a comical and interesting interview about his projects and his drive to pursue a dream. Enjoy!

WOTS: Where did you get your passion for art, you’ve turned a hobby into a reality? I think you’ve struck gold!

TRENT: In high school I was a f*&% up, I was a terrible student. Graduating high school I didn’t get into college. I didn’t know there were careers in the arts realm other than being an “artist” or a “painter” so when I went to Pasadena City College which was next to Art Center, an acclaimed design school, it had that artistic feel. I found out about all the opportunities I could pursue and got excited about life. Following Pasadena, I transferred to CSULB as an Industrial Design student so everything worked out in my favor, I love what I do.

WOTS: That’s dope! For the readers and I, can you break down what exactly “Industrial Design” is?

TRENT: For those of you that don’t know, industrial design is product design pretty much, deals with the consumer market, the United States is a consumer driven country. We buy products every day. I found out about it thru playing baseball at the junior college I went to before. It had a strong base and I wanted to start designing shoes when I realized that it was the career path I needed to pursue, that’s how I fell into the field.

WOTS: Thanks for that, I definitely learned something new! Alright, so what makes you any different from another designer? I see your talent but what do you think separates you?

TRENT: What separates me from other people is that I received the teaching that others don’t have. I got graphic design down. I’m the product designer. I’m the marketing guy. I’m the artist. You have to be EVERYTHING. You have to be all over the place and that’s perfect for me because I have A.D.D., I’m a scatter brain, so I can be myself. lol. I lose focus a lot, I think that’s something that all people with a creative mind suffer from. I get inspired a lot so I’m always distracted but it always works in my favor.

WOTS: People respect and appreciate your talents including myself (shout out to Trent for the banner on our homepage!). What are some things you have done to get people more familiarized with your work? I know you have a lot of people coming to you asking for your artistic expertise whether it’s in the hip-hop community, fashion, or logo marketing, give us an insider..

TRENT: For the past two years I’ve done all the artwork for Overdoz, their t-shirt design, art on their webpage and the dumpster for their tour, man I forgot all about the dumpster! That was fun! I’ve done projects with TwelveBar clothing company. Graphics for the artists such as Raven Sorvino a.k.a. Paper Girl and her mix-tape artwork for Playa Del Rey. What else did you ask me? lol.

WOTS: It’s ok scatter brain, haha! What are some things that “Trent Elliot” wants to do for himself? I know you are helping a lot of people out like myself but what about you as far as a brand? Do you want to have an art gallery? Just release products? What would you want to do?

TRENT: My ultimate goal is to be a shoe designer. That’s what I’m going to school for, preferably Nike (shout out to Nike), but as of right now I’m trying to start an utility pack brand for men and women called “Pochete”. Something fresh and new. Can’t talk about it much really. I have a partner, Eva Munson, we argue a lot but we work really well together so I’m excited! I just want to be one of those people you read about in magazines. Not famous but a household name. Maybe not a house either. lol. More like an apartment-hold name.

WOTS: What is your most favorite project that youve done thus far?

TRENT: I’d say the Rise of the DEST dumpster. That whole time in my life, it was a really hard time for me. I had a project due for school, doing t-shirts with TwelveBar and building a dumpster by hand it was..

WOTS: I’M SORRY to pull a Kanye west on you but when you say “build a dumpster” what do you mean?!

TRENT: lol. Like if u went to the Rise of the DEST concert there was a dumpster on stage. It was made by hand with wood and I did it! Spray painted it, it was crazy how I pulled it off! With what little we had, $200, it was rough but it was amazing. It was for real my most crowning achievement.

Make sure you keep up with Trent Elliot on IG and his new projects, I anticipate you will be mind blown with his innovative things to come. You heard it here first! Thanks Trent, and to you all, catch you next time!

Oh! && Shout out to HONEY’S KETTLE… Williams family owned in Culver City delicious fried chicken gotta go check that out!!! DELICIOUS! mmm..

Checking in with @MrCheckPoint: What We Don’t Know About The Road

mrcheckpoint-tweets

From a state where DUI checkpoints are set up like roach motels in mostly lower income areas, speed traps lurk under every highway bridge and still, parking meter maids scavenge to find a red flashing meter. I’m talking about California.

I want to say that I understand most of these officers are just “doing their job” but it’s not really the case when the patrol car states they’re out to “protect and serve”. My question is: Serve who? Well, serve their employer which is one of the most in debt states of America, yours truly: California.

As stated by CaliforniaWatch.org: “An investigation by the Investigative Reporting Program at UC Berkeley with California Watch has found that impound’s at checkpoints in 2009 generated an estimated $40 million in towing fees and police fines – revenue that cities divide with towing firms [and] additionally, police officers received about $30 million in overtime pay for the DUI crackdowns, funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety”. This information isn’t hard to believe but it sad to say that people do not know what is really going on. So how do we get in the know? What IS the word on the street?

I recently caught up with Sennett Devermont, @MrCheckpoint himself, Twitters very own Batman to California drivers, serving over 30k people and growing fast! A man with a plan and the passion to help deter and keep the streets safe from the harm of alcohol and the police together: In this exclusive interview you can get a closer look and feel of what Mr. Devermont’s purpose is and why its only helping you to follow him, here’s how I took a closer look… [Read more...]
